BVI Shelf Companies Shelf companies are readily available for purchase from Elan. These are companies which have been incorporated by Elan in the past yet have not engaged in any activities since their inception. Generally, aged companies are more valuable than new companies. Elan requires acceptable references and payment before ownership can be fully transferred. All currently available Elan shelf companies are registered as International Business Companies (IBCs). Parties requiring the immediate establishment of a bank account in the BVI will find the purchase of a shelf company preferable to incorporating "from scratch", as the BVI government requires roughly a week from the date of incorporation to issue the corporate documents. Banks in the British Virgin Islands require these documents in order to open corporate bank accounts. Pricing information is available upon application for Elan shelf companies, and a current listing of available names will also be provided upon request (although the company name can be changed for a nominal fee).
